The incident led to the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the multi-storey parking facility.

Two individuals are now facing charges in connection with a luggage theft where a suspected irritant spray caused injuries at the UK's busiest airport.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, are accused of two robbery charges and charges for administering a noxious substance, as confirmed by court officials.

The charges follow an probe of an attack at the parking structure at Terminal 3 on the weekend. Prior to the attack, two women were robbed of their suitcases taken after getting out of a parking garage elevator, police said.

A toddler was caught up in the incident in the event. A total of five individuals went to hospital for treatment and were eventually allowed to go home.

This event – described by police as was not part of a series and not considered a terror-related act – caused disruptions to rail services and the partial closure of the main airport road tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a limited duration.
