Thomas Tuchel Wants Jude Bellingham's Aggression So Long As The Three Lions' Star Leaves His Ego Outside.

A single omission did the trick. A second one and it could have seemed spiteful from the England manager, who is far too wily not to understand that claiming the World Cup trophy demands contributions by Jude Bellingham, even if it is also on the midfielder to adapt to the game plans and player rankings necessary with England now that he is returned to Tuchel's welcoming fold.

Tuchel seeks the player's competitive fire, his fire, but it is a matter of using it constructively. Individual quality matters but the squad have learned the hard way that there is consequences when fame takes over. Nevertheless, a message has been sent.

The midfielder had much to ponder after his omission of the previous squad. He observed England book their place at the upcoming World Cup without him. He saw Morgan Rogers perform brilliantly as a high-pressing No 10. He heard the coach talk about loving the group’s energy and ethics. Inevitably, Bellingham has reacted in champion style, scoring crucial goals for his club versus their rivals and Juventus. His selection was inevitable; a second snub would have left his World Cup hopes in serious doubt.

The hope is that the manager will have a Bellingham focused on frightening rivals instead of teammates. Ultimately, from a tactical perspective, there is no advantage to picking a fight with a top talent in the world. The best outcome is that Bellingham’s time out of the team has demonstrated that representing the national team is a precious, precarious thing. The coach, for his part, can now throw a protective shield around the 22-year-old after demonstrating that he is not afraid to take tough decisions.

“No issue exists with him, there is no problem with the character,” Tuchel commented. “Jude just has that aggression. It takes a sharp mentality to achieve greatness that he has. We all must support him and establish a setting where he can [have] his drive against rivals and towards the goals we are working towards as a team.”

The star took up the spotlight at the team news conference for this month’s final group games versus Serbia and Albania. Any other news? Well, what about another talent? This is a further gifted playmaker who needs love and guidance. Foden has not played for England since spring and has found it hard to perform well recently but the boss could not ignore the player after how he played in his club's victory versus the German side recently.

The question, however, is how to use the multiple playmakers at the team's disposal. Rogers and Eberechi Eze deserve their spots and there will be a good argument to pick Cole Palmer once he overcomes a ongoing injury. Is selecting multiple creators to the World Cup be too many? Gareth Southgate failed to discover the correct balance at Euro 2024. He compromised by squeezing both stars into the same XI, cramping the captain's influence as a result.

It seems unlikely Tuchel making the same mistake if it hurts the attacking balance. Space exists for a single playmaker, with speedy wingers on the flanks. Clear roles is beneficial. He is in as a central attacker. The new call-up, called up for the first time, is a No 8 and the returning Wharton will compete with another player as a No 6. Additionally, there is no wide role for Foden, who must play through the middle. The coach prefers him near the striker. “It is illogical to tell Foden: ‘You are needed on the pitch but there’s no space in your preferred role, could you fill in at left wing? Or the right wing?” he stated. “Phil is to feature in the advanced midfield role, through the center. I've long had this vision regarding him for years. In my view it fits his style best.”

Tuchel conceded there are occasions when Foden has not looked himself in an England shirt. “One senses as if, ‘Does he really enjoy it? And a player like him who has such natural delight to play football, then clearly something is not right, be it his role, the environment, it's unclear.

“I think he is additionally accustomed to representing his club in a certain structure, to have a clear task. I think he profits greatly from clarity. What is my position? In which positions am I to receive the ball? When should I to push the tempo? Where do I have to defensive duties?”

Tuchel mentioned one star making runs for easy finishes and Foden netting strikes from 18 yards. He added he has a longlist of many candidates. Several players, Myles Lewis-Skelly, James Trafford and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have dropped out. A new face is recognized for his fine form for City at defense. Interest is high.

Leaving out of the striker means there is no like-for-like alternative for the captain in this squad. Fascinatingly, he hinted at deploying the playmaker as a false 9 against one opponent or the other. Other options, the United forward, the midfielder and the winger are other options if he be absent. Since the place is booked, this is a moment for testing tactics.

Meanwhile, it is also a chance to develop Kane’s relationship with Bellingham going. It's surprising that you have to go back to the latter setting up the captain to net in a friendly win against Scotland in over a year ago to find the sole instance in 35 games for the national team when the duo combined for a score. The coach will be aware that Kane and Bellingham only passed to each other once during England’s draws with one opponent and another at the European Championship. The connection is lacking.

“At this point at some point it becomes the duty of the players,” Tuchel said. He is not afraid to be blunt. There is still a sense of the player being on trial. He cannot even be guaranteed to begin versus the upcoming opponents. The manager wants Bellingham onside but he will be observing him closely. Leave self-importance at the door. Doing so could turn a powerful England team into an superior one.
